From Terroir to Tap – Giving Our Whiskey Barrels A Second Life

Distillery barrelsBy John Maier

Magic happens inside a Rogue Spirits whiskey barrel. Ocean aging at our House of Spirits on the Oregon Coast in charred white oak does wonderful things.

So what happens when it’s time for a barrel to “retire”?

They get a second life as artisan hand crafted Rogue Farms tap handles.

Todd Tessmer is one of those “only in Oregon” kind of people who find real joy in working with old wood and turning them into works of art. His passion for Rogue’s whiskey barrels and the tap handles he crafts from them is inspiring.

  1. I wanted to know if I could purchase a couple of your used oak barrels? I have lots of things I like to build from wine barrels, but would love some whiskey barrels too.
